Indoor Cycling Magazine cares about the consumer and does not believe that the public wants us to be fanboys and a cheerleader for every Indoor Cycling product. Which is why we had to write a negative review for the Peloton Indoor Cycles.
Their most popular “package” consists of their core Peloton bike (the model you see in the studios, their showrooms, residencies, etc., and can view here) outfitted with – multi-user software, dual-sided pedals (inclusive of SPD cycling shoe clip on one side and toe cage for riding in sneakers on the other), 2 pound weights, and a 3 year commercial warranty. The cost of the package comes at $2,395 usa which is 3,019.83 canadian !!!
Wow. One can get a decent used car for that price, or a nice outdoor racing bike and bike an indoor trainer designed for outdoor bikes and still have money left over.
And. Don’t you dare consider getting the residential Peloton bike because for comparison, the residential bike does not come with the multi user software, dual function pedals, and comes with only a 1 year warranty that is null and void in a multiuser environment.
Then you have to take out your credit card out again. Sorry. Each bike requires its own subscription to access Peloton content on demand classes. They kept the pricing for the commercial subscription on parity with the home bike, but have annualized the fee at $468/year (usa) and that is 589.92 Canadian dollars.
Additional costs include shipping / installation ($250 for the first bike, $100 per additional bike, placed in the same order), and applicable sales tax.
And guess what? After you have spent over 3000 dollars they make you pay $59 dollars for the Bike Mat ($74 canadian)
So let’s come back to reality. For all that money you get a bike where you are alone between 4 walls. Where you can pay for a fitness membership from 40 to 150 a month and not only get all the Indoor Cycling classes but enjoy social community and also enjoy fitness equipment, enjoy saunas, etc etc.
To keep this short. Indoor Cycling Magazine does not recommend the Peloton Bikes.
