NOVEMBER 2022 UPDATE !! Angela Manuel Davis has separated from AARMY. (we are not surprised)
After countless emails and conversations Indoor Cycling Channel finally decided to review the AARMY brand. We weren’t sure how. to begin. Should we begin with the global issues that have negative economic effects on small studios? Or the negative effects on the independent instructors? Or just share our personal experience with the Aarmy brand first?
As such. We just decided to rely on the only adage. – “Just Start.” Let’s begin with common knowledge
In the last few years we have witnessed hundreds of small businesses suffer due to big box and corporate giants who open nearby causing harm and businesses closing. Economists call this “The Walmart Effect”.
What Is the Walmart Effect?
The Walmart Effect is a term used to refer to the economic impact felt by local businesses when a large company like Walmart opens a location in the area. The Walmart Effect usually manifests itself by forcing smaller retail firms out of business and reducing wages for competitors’ employees. Many local businesses oppose the introduction of Walmart stores into their territories for these reasons.
16 000 000 million dollars in Funding
When we discovered that Aarmy got 16 000 000 million dollars to develop, that is a huge red flag. Aarmy funding is led by Mousse Partners. Valia Ventures, Pendulum, and Wilshire Lane Partners are also major investors
When. we see small studios closing it breaks our heart. Aarmy profits and benefits every time a person chooses to spin with them for less instead of giving their business to a local studio. Actually the same thing when a person buys from Amazon. You can buy a pad lock from your local hardware store or you can buy it from Amazon. Remember. Even if the Spin Studios don’t close but loose “some business” that may lead to less hours for employees. Which leads to a a lower quality of life. For example, Lisa looses a few hours, which leads to less hours, which leads to a. smaller pay check which my lead to losing her apartment and forcing her to live in room for less money.
Then there is the Community Experience
We are sure that any person with social studies knowledge or psychology background agrees that people need community. At local studios you get greeted with your first name, and you get human physical interaction and see get to see others warm smiles. For example if it is your birthday the local studio where your fitness friends are will wish you a happy birthday. Which is increases your self-esteem. Plus. It also increases the chances of adhering to your fitness routine. Anyone who has studied adherence problems is aware of the huge problem of people quitting their fitness resolutions. On the other hand. Adherence increases when one feels a part of a social group and feels connected. It is not an exaggerations when we say that adhering to fitness routines leads to a longer life and reduces ones chance of developing serious health issues.
Then there is our personal first hand experience with Aarmy.
When the founder of Indoor Cycling Channel witnessed such hate from the Aarmy characters, even from the co founder Akin Akman , we were disturbed. Such hate is unacceptable. Gossip and slander should not exist in a professional brand organization. With Akin. He never met us but instantly treated us as enemies, even after we promoted him and gave them hundreds of dollars of our business. That increases our agreement with this review from a very professional instructor in New York.
Hate has no place in a professional brand
Again. We had to share that review because of our first-hand experience with Aarmy. Who would disagree when we say that hate is toxic and has no place in a professional brand? Again. Instead of thanking us for giving them some coverage they reacted with hate either because we did not give them a 5 star review or because we are non-white?
Another “Aarmy Solder” or more like “character” is known as Sophia Goldstein
When we personally witnessed such hate from her it was disheartening and disturbing. Again. Consistant with the actions of Akin — instead of thanking us for giving her a shout out she treated us like enemies. Was it because we did not give them a 5 star review? Or was she coached to treat other Indoor Cycling brands as the enemy? Or was it because the founder is a non-white, middle-eastern man? Her hateful action is still a mystery to us. However after we see her mean-spirited picture we are not surprised anymore. Remember this Sophie–being mean is not beautiful it is a mental disorder. And just to be clear, we don’t believe in personal attacks, we are DEFENDING OURSELVES from personal attacks.
Remember when the competition from Peloton had Flywheel and SoulCycle spiralling into an identity crisis?
Many of us are aware that in 2019 the news was that Pelotpn was causing loses and layoffs. At the end of December 2019, users of the popular cycling class Flywheel received an email in their inboxes with the ominous subject line, “An Announcement From Our Co-Founder.”
In the vague note, CEO Ruth Zukerman wrote that she will be stepping down from the company, citing a move to undisclosed future endeavours after nearly a decade of cultivating Flywheel into the boutique fitness behemoth it is today. Vox News stated that brands like Peloton had a significant effect. So now it is 2022. I am sure you agree that it doesn’t require a degree in economics to conclude that a 16 000 000 million dollar funded brand like AArmy will cause similar effects.
Lets keep this simple
To keep this simple.and easy to relate. Instead of us highlighting the harm local studios are suffering let’s share two local instructors who don’t have a 16 000 000 million dollar budget. Who do you think will prevail?
As we read above. Aarmy has a 16 000 000 funding. That leads to–top of the line filming studio, the top of the line video equipment, the top of the line audio equipment, and the top of the line marketing strategy. Who do you think will win?
As such. Of course we are supporting LINDSEY VINE. And here is where you can try her online Spin Classes. https://sutrapro.com/vibewithvine
Let’s do one more?
As we just read above. Aarmy has a 16 000 000 funding which leads to the top of the line filming studio. The top of the line video equipment, the top of the line audio equipment, and the top of the line marketing strategy. Who do you think will win?
Of course we are supporting BILLLY GAINZ and here is where you can try his online Spin Classes. https://www.gainez.com
